Wind Mill Power

South India Corporation Limited owns fourteen Wind Energy generators in what is popularly known as 'wind mill belt' at Poolavady, Vadavalli, Kondampatti Villages between Palladam and Udumalpet as well as in Tirunelveli District. The installed capacity of these fourteen WEGs is 4.195MW.

1. Out of these, four are of 'Enercon' make each of capacity 230 KW, the total capacity being 0.92MW. These WEGs are 48 metres in height, made of tubular steel, conical type in shape with 3 blades each. These operate at a start-up wind speed of 2.5 m/s, rated wind speed being 13 m/s and with a survival wind speed of 70 m/s. Blades are made of GRP/Epoxy resin and the swept area is 7.07 sq.m. Generators are of synchronous type. These designed to consume minimum reactive power from TNEB grid and are of Variable speed, gearless technology, Superior in output.

These generate around 16 - 20 lakhs units of power annually depending on wind velocity, which is a variable factor.

2. Nine WEGs are of NEPC make contributing 2.025 MW to TNEB
grid. These nine units have generated at the rate of 40 lakhs of
units of power annually to TNEB grid.

3. Remaining one is 'Suzlon' make of 1.25 MW capacity, which is
the latest additions during 3/2004 to our group of WEGs. Hub height is 80 mts, Rated wind speed 14 m/s, Cutoff wind speed 25 m/s and survival wind speed 60 m/s. This is powered by an Asynchronous sling ring motor. This single WEG is expected to generate around 37 lakhs units of power annually.

As these WEGs are seasonal in character, power is mainly generated during the months of May to September, tapering in October and coming down further in November, December and January/February, picking up again in March and peaking thereafter from April onwards.

Wind velocity is a changing factor every year and therefore out put also varies. WEGs of SICL are performing very well over the years considering normal standards. Power generated is directly fed to TNEB grid as well as wheeled to our sister concerns.

Plantations

Chettinad Plantations (P) Ltd., established in1974, the estate spreads over an area of 700 acres, at an altitude of 3520 sq. ft above the sea level located in Pollibeta, South Kodagu, Karnataka. This region has a salubrious climate and abundant rainfall throughout the year. The main activity is to grow coffee of Robusta and Arabica types. Apart from coffee the Plantation is also growing Paddy, Pepper, Oranges & Cardamom. The estate has large number of JackFruit Trees, Silver Oak Trees and Bamboo.
The main income generated is from the Coffee as well as Agriculture.

Stud Farms

The Chettinad Stud & Agricultural Farm and The Sholavaram Stud Farm are adjacent Stud Farms spread over an area of 250 acres at Soorapet and Mettusoorapet Villages respectively located proximity to the City of Chennai. These Stud Farms were established in the year 1985. The Stud Farms are the brain work of the most proficient racing baron Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy. Presently these Stud Farms are being successfully managed under the most efficient guidance of Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy and his beloved Son Mr.M.A.M.R.Muthiah.

The main functions of the Stud Farms are to breed, to rear and to give basic training fit enough to undergo racing career of horses for racing. These Farms possess more than 250 Broodmares (Both Indian and Got abroad), 125 Foals and an equal number of Yearlings. There are also 4 most highly rated Stallions.

The distinguishing feature and the uniqueness of these Farms being "the only Stud Farm in Asia in maintaining this large number of horses in a single location".

The Farms are located above the perennial water belt which in turn transforms this place into a steppe and prairie with vast lush green paddocks for grazing. In the midst of salubrious conditions provided for the horses, the Farms are equipped with state of the art facilities in all parameters like Veterinary Hospital Complex, Clinical Laboratory with Auto analyzers, Operation Table with Collapsible Bed, Intensive Care Units, Air-conditioned stables for sick - horses, Horse Walkers, Ultra Sound Scanner, Magneto pulse for Physiotherapy etc., with round the clock health care given by team of expert Veterinary Doctors led by a Chief Veterinary Consultant Dr.C.K.Bhuvanakumar, B.V.Sc., M.V.Sc., Ph.D. (Edinburgh) assisted by Seven Veterinary Doctors. The two Stud Farms are efficiently managed technically and financially.

The Stud Farms have the benefit of the sagacity of the Head of the Group, Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy, who was the first to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for having won100 Classics. Presently his tally has raisen to more than 400 Classics.

Needless to point out that our Stud Farm crops have proven their potentiality in winning many classic events in all the racing centers in India.

Chettinad Mini Hall available for conducting Small Seminars, Get to gether, Board Meetings, Small Family Functions etc. It is in the Third floor of Rani Seethai Hall. The area is about 2000 sq.ft.

It has been aesthetically and artistically built up. It is fully Air-conditioned and furnished. It is having a good sound system with stand-by Generator. It is having telephone facilities with Internet access. It can accommodate about 60 Persons. Ample Carparking & Lift facilities are also available

The charges is Rs.6,000/- for 3.00 hours and the Electricity charges will be extra.
